After a washout last week, and with a few of our core players missing, this week we played North West Titans. A team which on any given week could produce anything. This week, they produced the goods and ran away with a good win. We went down 11 – 2.

Even though they only had 8 players, they had a couple of ex Rebels in Brent Lyons and Matty Martin who are both exceptional players, especially in that division.

My worst fears were realised with Brent Lyons started on the mound for them and even though he was a bit erratic, at time he probably threw at about 80 mile an hour or pretty close too it and as you could expect, was way too good for us on the day.

We had our opportunity when Matty Martin came on but the bats didn’t light up and we went down with out a squeak.

Not one of our best days as you could imagine. We only had three hits for the day. Neil Ray (Donk) hit a massive triple, Tim Karas squeezed out a single but all praise must go to Serena Geddes, who got her first hit for the club with a scorching double to right field. We struck out 9 times. Brent Lyons in the 12 outs that he pitched, struck out 8. We can all learn from this, shorten your swing, just try and get bat on to ball. The velocity will do the rest.

Pitching was as good as ever with Brucey starting and throwing 2 scoreless innings. Mozz came on and as was going to happen in a close game, one side was going to break the shackles and it was the Titans. Timbo came on in the end to close out the game in fine style.

Fielding was a real killer this week. We had 7 errors. Now although we had some fill-ins and we have a few new players, there were some that just should not have happened and that is the sore point. We practice so we get used to performing a role, so we get used to executing a play. We need to work hard on every play and make sure of it. The most important part of any play is the first 3 to 4 meters, get there hard to give yourself time to execute.

And finally, a big welcome to Matt Prowse who played his first game for the Rebels. He took a blinder of a catch in right field. Also a big thanks to our two fill-ins, Serena and Joel. Great game guys and we would have struggled to field a side without you. Too bad it was so windy, we couldn’t hear Joel from the outfield.
