We had another home game this week and with many people unavailable, we had to scrape the bottom of the barrel for some fill in’s. And who did we get? The two C’s. Clinton and Chris. Firstly thanks guys for filling in and it was fun to play with you both again and for the first time.

It was a tough game with Fitzroy once again displaying how much depth they have as a club (they have 3 teams in Div 4). They batted all the way down to 9 and managed to get 13 hits to our 9.

Bruce once again started for us and did a great job striking out 3 and giving up no walks. Maurice relieved and struggled a bit giving up 5 walks before I had a go. Clinton had he’s pitching debut and did pretty good for a first timer. He only hit one batter.

Defensively, we are doing a really good job only having 2 errors for the. I’m not going to mention the bad hop at 3rd that hit me in the shoulder that got marked as an error. I love you to honey. Glenn did some great work at 2nd and Gavin behind the dish is getting better. Threw out one runner.

Hitting wise, we could have done a lot better. We got 9 hits but against that kind of pitching, we should have dominated. Glenn got his first hit for the club, awesome. Gavin hit a double and his first triple as well.

Where we lost it though was giving up too many walks. We gave away 7 to their 0. We need to attack hitters and give our fielders a chance. The opposition may hit us but that most of the time is better than giving a free pass. We also need to do the basics. To many times people are not reacting the way they should to a hit ball. We are out of position which makes doing the basics hard.

This week at training, we will focus on outfield and cutting the ball.
