Strategic Partnership Announcement

THE NORTH COBURG REBELS AND PRESTON PIRATES BASEBALL CLUBS
ANNOUNCE INTENT TO ESTABLISH A STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

The Boards of the Preston Pirates Baseball Club and the North Coburg Baseball Club have resolved to establish a Strategic Partnership between the two Baseball Clubs.

The intent of the Strategic Partnership is for the two Clubs to work together across the combined geographic region of each Club while retaining the identity and history of both Clubs.

The Preston Pirates founded in 1910 have since the 1980’s operated during the Summer Season only and the North Coburg Rebels were founded in 1986 as a Winter Season Club, expanding into the Summer Season in recent years.

The Preston Pirates will retain the new baseball diamond and club rooms at Charles La Trobe College in Bundoora when completed in late 2022 and focus on the Summer Season. The North Coburg Rebels will retain the Parker Reserve diamonds and club rooms and focus on the Winter Season.

With North Coburg Rebels fielding limited teams in the Summer Season the intent of the Strategic Partnership is for players in the 1st – 4th at both Clubs to be able to move between the two Clubs. This is subject to discussions with Baseball Victoria and if this is not permissible an alternative has been identified and is possible.

For the Senior Women’s team currently fielded by the Preston Pirates and the junior teams fielded by both Clubs the intent is to play as combined teams where appropriate and permissible. Again, an alternative has been identified and is permissible.

The Preston Pirates will train and play out of Parker Reserve alongside the North Coburg Rebels the home of North Coburg Baseball Club from the start of the 2022-2023 Victorian Summer Baseball League Season in October 2022 until the Christmas break at the end of December 2022.

From the return post the Christmas break in January 2023 the Clubs will continue to train together alternating between Bundoora and Parker Reserve with games fixtured across the two locations for all teams across both Clubs. (Subject to the new Baseball Diamond and Club Rooms at Charles La Trobe College being completed ready by early 2023).

“This is not a merger of two Clubs rather the formation of a Strategic Partnership which allows for the facilities of the two Clubs to be shared and for the easy movement of players within the Summer Season where both Clubs will continue to field teams and for the easy movement of players to the Winter Season where only the North Coburg Rebels will field teams with the intent of easy transition of players from summer into winter” said Myles Foreman, President Preston Pirates Baseball Club

“In challenging economic times and the decline in community sport participation as players and volunteers post the COVID lockdowns this is an exciting opportunity for both clubs to confront these challenges for the betterment of the community of both Clubs and to attract and retain players and volunteers to the baseball community” Foreman added.

The Boards of the two Clubs will now conduct a joint information session at 7.30pm on Wednesday 17 August 2022 in person at Parker Reserve and online via Zoom. This is an opportunity for the communities of each club to be provided with additional information and to seek clarification and share thoughts before the Boards of both Clubs finalise a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two clubs.

“The formalisation of a Strategic Partnership ensures we have a strong year-round pipeline for players from starting juniors all the way through to seniors to get the very best from their baseball both on and off the field” said Paul Clarke President North Coburg Rebels Baseball Club.

“North Coburg and Preston have closely aligned ideals and plans on how best to move forward, especially in a post Covid world. We feel this partnership will go a long way to nurturing and fostering baseball in our region.”
Clarke added.

The intent is for the Strategic Partnership to evolve over time with a review at the end of the 2022-2023 Summer Baseball Season to be undertaken in conjunction with the combined communities of both Clubs before resolving how to evolve the Strategic Partnership across future years.

Return To Training – Summer 2021/22

WE’RE BACK!

Training: Tuesday 26th October

Please read the below information that is important to the resumption of baseball. These are non-negotiable and need your compliance. Remember, the folks that are running the show are volunteers and are doing their best to ensure you enjoy your baseball and experience at North Coburg as much as possible. Please don’t argue about things that are out of our control.
To keep this as simple as possible:

*All players and coaches need to have completed the Return to Training registration below (even if you did it last time, you need to do it again)
https://regoform.mygameday.app/#/0012800001KoiLWAAZ/wqdDixkIqGHqeVCpIw

*Players and coaches must enter through the gate @ first base. (Closest to the batting cage). It’s a single point of entry.

*Players and coaches MUST use the QR code when entering. I suggest adding the QR Code to your favourite list in your Vic Services App for ease of entry.

*There will be a Covid Marshall asking if you have checked and registered. Failure to have done either or refusal to do either will result in you being asked to leave the field immediately.

*Masks are to be worn to and from the ground and if possible during training. They can be removed for strenuous exercise though.

*Contrary to what was advised last week players DO NOT need to be fully vaccinated to participate in community sports training in Moreland.

*Groups need to be limited to 20 players and coaches per group. If required we will run two groups on the ground but these groups cannot mix together during that training session.

*Clubrooms are off-limits. Come ready to train. Public toilets will be available.

*The batting cage is off-limits at this stage.

Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask here, private message or email us at the club.
This, as always, is ever-changing. What is in place this week may not be in place next week, and potentially not in place by the 24th of November. The season is still expected to commence on the 14th of November.

Can I play community sport?
Yes. Community sport can resume but in outdoor settings and for training purposes only. Competitions are not permitted.
Attendance must be limited to the minimum number of people required to participate and train (e.g. players, coaches).
Spectators are not allowed, except to supervise children (one adult per child or sibling group only).
Face masks must be worn, except when doing strenuous exercise or another lawful exception applies.

Am I required to be vaccinated to play community sport?
Outdoor physical recreation and sporting facilities such as swimming pools and leisure centres are open.
If these facilities are used for community sport (organised competitive sports with membership), patrons participating or facilitating community sport (e.g. players, coaches, volunteers) do not need to be fully vaccinated to access the facility.
Patrons 16 years and older attending outdoor physical recreation and sporting facilities for purposes other than community sport must be fully vaccinated (or have an exception) to access the facility if the facility is open for fully vaccinated people (including workers).
This is in recognition that mixed-aged groups participate in community sport, and teams with players unable to be vaccinated should not be at a disadvantage if they aren’t old enough to be fully vaccinated.

The Rebels are getting a new batting cage

There has been a lot of talk over the past year about our new batting cage, and we’ve just heard the exciting news from our builder that a building permit is expected to be issued before the end of the month. We’re hopeful to have it up and ready in time for the 2019 Winter season!

First however we need to demolish the old cage and get the site ready for construction so get yourselves ready for a good old fashioned working bee. Date to be confirmed but we are looking to have it done by the middle of Feb so keep an eye on our social channels for details.

You can see some before and potential after shots below, but it will double in width as well as be increased length wise. A solid roof will protect us from the elements and decent lighting will ensure you see every pitch.

Coaching Position at the Rebels: Expressions of Interest sought.

In late 2017, Lisa Norrie wrote herself into the history books by becoming the first female coach in the Australian Baseball League and she was there in the dugout as the assistant coach to the Brisbane Bandits as they took out the championship and Claxton Shield for the 2017/18 season.

While we cannot emulate winning the Claxton the North Coburg Rebels Baseball Club is looking for a female coach to spearhead and implement a program to increase female engagement and participation at our club. We have a strong female presence in our committee and full support will be offered at every turn, including subsidising of coaching accreditation or development.

In addition to the Women’s program, there is scope for the incumbent, if suitably qualified, to take an active leadership role as the coach or assistant coach of one of our higher graded winter teams. There is also the option to coach one of the lower grades if they prefer.

We are looking at this process as a conversation, the opportunity to engage with a coach who may have fresh ideas and a new way of doing things.
While keen to have someone in time for the start of the winter season, we understand that these things take time to implement and so will be keeping expressions of interest open until such time the position is filled.

Don’t think you are ready to take the leap this season? Contact us anyway and let’s get the dialogue started.

Expressions of interest to be emailed to secretary@rebelsbc.com
